Co2 Enrichment
Carbon dioxide (Co2) is essential for plant growth. Co2 is the gas that humans breathe out and plants breathe in. Indoors, growth slows down as your plants use up the available Co2. As greenhouse pros know, the introduction of Co2 to your greenhouse or grow room greatly increases growth rates. If lighting levels are adequate, and you have proper environmental control equipment in place to control temperature and humidity, then the addition of a Co2 unit will reward you greatly with much faster growth and increased yield.
There are two main ways to introduce Co2 to your grow room - a Co2 enrichment system that distributes Co2 from a tank (best for smaller grow rooms), and a Co2 generator, which actually burns propane to create Co2 - best for larger grow rooms and greenhouses.
The average level of Co2 in the atmosphere is about 350 parts per million (ppm). But scientific research and years of greenhouse experimentation has demonstrated that optimum growth in plants occurs when the Co2 level is 1200 to 1500 ppm.
