Rockwool
Today, Rockwool is the growing media of choice both in Europe and North America for commercial and amateur indoor and greenhouse hydroponic gardeners. Rockwool is made from molten rock spun into fibres as it cools. Rockwool is sterile, and very porous, holding up to 80% water by volume. Rockwool requires pH adjustments, but is suitable for growing in almost all hydroponic systems. Ease of use is one reason for its growing popularity over the last 2 decades - a 1.4" (40 mm) propagation cube, for example, fits into the hole in the 3" (7 cm) or 4" (10 cm) cube for fast and simple transplants.

Propagation cubes 1.4" x 1.4" x 1" tall (36 mm x 40 mm x 25 mm), 98 per sheet, 11" x 21" (28 cm x 53 cm). Available as single sheet or case of 30 sheets (2940).
3" x 3" x 2.5" tall (7 cm x 7 cm x 6 cm) growblocks, with large holes or without holes, available singly or case of 384.
1.5" x 1.5" (4 cm x 4 cm) growblock. Available singly or in cases of 2250 cubes.
Slab 6" x 36" x 3" tall (15 cm x 90 cm x 7 cm). Solid rockwool. Available singly or in cases of 12 slabs.
Slab 8" x 36" x 3" tall (20 cm x 90 cm x 7 cm). Solid rockwool. Available singly or in cases of 12 slabs.
